Several year ago during Ceremony I was guided to open my voice to Spirit and was amazed at the song that came through. Along with the amazement came a deep sense of peace and joy. And my life was   changed, as they say.

With time and exploration I learned to clarify intention and focus on specific points of interest.

Sound Healing, the old is new again

Sound Healing is an old phenomenon whose time has come AGAIN

The Ancients as well as our Indigenous Elders have known for millennia that every thing is made up of energy, even thought they might have used different terminology. When things were out of balance, in disharmony, in a diseased state, they knew many ways to affect that energy to return to balance, wholeness. Sound with sacred intention was one such powerful tool, one that we are rediscovering today.

Sicko, Sicko, A Surprising Treat, Fudge or Not

I dragged myself to see "Sicko", because I ought to. You know, civic duty and all. I've never seen a Michael Moore movie, but I've heard lots about them. So I was fully prepared to feel, well, Sicko, afterwards. Was I surprised.

I laughed, sometimes sarcastically, but sometimes just laughing. I cried. To my surprise they were real tears of compassion and gratitude, not anger. And I learned, really learned. And I thought I was fairly well informed.

Medicine has been a big part of my life. Working in the field and having a lot of family in the field has been tempered with coping with chronic conditions that are difficult to treat with the standard pill and scalpel routine. And as I age I have witnessed many going without because of the high costs, or risking yearly trips north or south of the border. So I thought I had a handle on both sides.

Well, it just doesn't have to be this way. I was especially moved by the young woman overseas who felt guilty because at a young age she had care that her parents had worked all their lives to attain, and still don't have what she has.

Now, I know the hearings on Guantanamo Bay were to combat criticism of prisoner mistreatment, but Michael Moore used them quite deftly to show our severe mistreatment of our own. His reaction was clever, funny, and unfortunately very sad.

Sorry I didn't catch the name of the English gentleman who discussed the British system, but he was so right-on when he pointed out that an educated populous is difficult to govern. He correctly pointed out that when a people are so demoralized by the burden of health care and other worries they don't vote, they don't participate in government at any level.

Yes, Micheal Moore and Sicko brought out some extremes. Doesn't it take extremes to get attention in our fast paced, over stimulated, demoralized nation? But he did a superb job of getting his point across.

I look forward to seeing the impact this movie will have. Or will it be buried by lack of media exposure and censorship? Are we ready as a people to take on the Powers-that-be and fight for our lives or are we too afraid?

Sicko is definitely a must see. And don't worry, you'll laugh, you might cry, but it won't hurt too much...at first.

Over coming an Identity Crisis, Voice to Spirit Expands

Why do some people always know who they are and where they are going? What id the secret? And do I really want it?

It seems I have struggle with one identity crisis or another most of my life. My conundrum is, is it a curse or a blessing?

When it feels like a curse I want to blame whatever is at hand; physiology, fate, the world, the universe. But when it is a blessing, an opportunity, I am truly grateful to the Creator for my next adventure.

Problem is most identity crises feel like a curse at the begining and only later can I see the blessing, the magnificent opportunities, that I have been gifted.

Yes I have a point here. My prodigym Voice to Spirit, seems to have inherited my penchant for identity crises.

My original intent was to offer a blog that followed my journey as I explored my roll as a Sound Healing Facilitator as well as what is unfolding in the larger arena as Sound and Vibrational Healing move into the Mainstream of our culture.

However, I keep running into issues that I want to address that do not neatly fit into this niche. Like the ordinary/extraordinary riches that are offered ones Spirit noted in the previous blog or my gift of consulting with Shaune Clarke.

Yes, this is probably more of an issue for me than for you. You see my original limitation was Spirit as in the Divine, God, Creator. But spirit according to Webster can just as well reference a mood, vigor and courage, dominant tendencies, vigorous sense of membership, true meaning of intent...and don't those definition speak to the "larger" Spirit as well? Now I don’t anticipate including other definitions or that I’ll wander off into regaling you with alcoholic meanderings, since I tend to get migraines form most of its forms. However, I am “loosening” my restrictions on my definitions for Spirit, in hopes that I will be freed from my own censorship of what I can include in this Blog.

A very wise woman once advised me that when we censor parts of ourselves, that censorship tends to bleed over into other aspects of our intrinsic being. Will freeing myself in this manner free up my energies to better pursue my original intentions? I know I've felt stifled and unsure about sharing my adventures this spring. And I have met so many interesting, knowledgeable, wonderful, empowered people. And the experiences! There is so much more that I am still digesting from the World Sound Healing Conference and my latest, the HealthRhythms Facilitator Training sponsered by Remo Drums. I trust that more of those adventures will be forthcoming.

The Year of Las Varas De San Jose, A Feast for the Senses

Has it really been ten years since I moved to Santa Fe!!

The first year I was amazed at the apricots. Trees were breaking form the weight. They were even all over the sidewalks, mostly smushed. The raccoons played “ball” with them in the middle of the night on my flat roof. Absolutely, I was truly baffled the first night that happened. Of course I thought that was the normal crop, but alas, we’ve very few this year, and for several years past.

Last summer was the year of yellow wild flowers. Our drought was somewhat broken and by mid summer. We had an amazing array of wild yellow flowers blooming everywhere all through the fall. A number of people were allergic, but for myself, no reaction for a change. I just gloried in the bright sunny landscape. 

2007 is the year of the opportunist Las Varas de San Jose. English gardens are what Hollyhocks bring to my mind, yet they originated in China. The Spanish colonists loved them too and found they would flourish when more tender planting would not tolerate our climatic extremes . And now they grow all over Santa Fe, in fact throughout the state. Maybe that is why they are tolerated when weeds would not be. Although I love my high desert and red rock country, this unpredictable burst of many colors is a real treat.

In our neighborhood they have wandered out of the gardens and are thriving in amazing places. They have even grown up in the crevices between the sidewalk and the curb. Actually the sidewalks can be obstacle courses with huge, bushy stalks lining both sides. And they are all along fences and driveways that don’t have the usual planting areas.

And the colors. Oh the colors. From soft whites and pale pinks through deep purples, almost black.  A real feast for the eyes and a lift for the Spirit. We’ve had a remarkably wet spring so everything is growing in abundance. And the Hollyhocks are  sturdier than usual, so they don’t even need any bracing.  Don’t tell the neighbors, but I just might gather some seed pods on my evening walk one day. Our yard is a bit sparse. We don’t seem to have time to get to the gardening, but these are glorious perennials even in years with less water.

When I was a child in North Carolina daffodils and jonquils appeared to grow wild along the ditches of our farms. Women from my lineage had planted many varities over the decades and they too had escaped to grow wild. In memory of those dear women who touched my young life with such visual delight, I send a Voice to Spirit in gratitude for all the every day beauty and wonder that bless my life.

Just wanted to share a bit of the enchantment of my home, nomad though I might appear.

Learning from the Pro...Shaune Clarke

I'm not even sure how I got the announcement for the interviewing teleconference. But knew immediately that I could use any info offered. Boy were my instincs right on this time.

So what does this have to do with Giving Voice to Spirit. I now have a valuable tool that will help me share the voices of others as well as enhancing my own.

So, what happened. Last week Shaune Clarke presented a teleconference on Intimate Interviewing and included a 30 minute consultation, all at the cost of my phone service!

You see, my intention, when I attended the World Sound Healing Conference in San Francisco last month, put on by Globe Institue, was to report my finding to you as I learned more for myself. Well, what interviewing training I have is reporter style, and I didn't get too far with that at the WSHC.

Maybe I was so drawn into the wonder of being among people who understood and accepted me with out LOTS of "Huhhs". Maybe it was that I know my little corner of the Sound Healing experience and was caught off guard by how much bigger that world is. Maybe I was over-awed by all the big names in Sound Healing just hanging out and sharing...Yeah, I know enough to know at least some of "The Names".

Or maybe I was using the wrong approach.

All that to say that I came away from WSHC reporting less than I had hoped.

I could only wish that I had heard Shaune Clarke before I went to San Francisco!

What did he say that would have made that much difference? Well, I would have been more confident knowing that I do in fact have some strong skills and talents that I could have banked on, instead of trying to be that "reporter". He has definitely changed my attitude and approach to interviewing with just his free information. His consultation showed an honest and open desire to share his wealth of knowledge and I never felt preasured to invest in any further training. However....

I was given a very valuable gift and I look forward to learning more from Shaune Clarke.

How to find Lorin, Weya Healer

Sorry!!!!!

I told you about my Favorite Shaman, Lorin Smith, a Weya Healer, Pomo Medicine Man form the Kashaya Reservation in California. Well, I didn't give you Lorin's contact infromation.

Now remember, Lorin is very Native American and sometimes goes by Native American Time. Maybe you've seen those bumper stickers that say "Native American Time" and then have a clock with no hands.

And Lorin also travels all over the States and Europe, so, do be patient.

From Sound Healing to Weya Healing

I haven't forgotten my goal of further reporting on the World Sound Healing Confernece. However, life just keeps moving forward and before I got home to write anymore, I went up to the Kashaya Reservation above San Francisco to visit my Favorite Shaman, Lorin Smith, a Pomo Medicine Man and Weya Healer.

But let me start back at the Conference. I had a mishap in Chinatown on Sunday morning. I tripped and went head first into a metal pole. You see I had been looking for a place to make an offering to the Dragons for their kindness earlier in the week. Well, as Belle said, I made a substantial blood offering right there on the street in China Town. Belle Star had ventured out with me for breakfast and was an angel in getting me back to the hotel and finding others to continue assisting me.

Many people at the Conference were very helpful and offered many forms of support and healing. Two women, only knowing that someone was injured, came immediately to my aid. There being no coincidences, of course, I had made very deep connections with both in the previous two day. Norma Dove (myladydove12@yahoo.com), a volunteer with medical assistance training sprang into action. Along with the care one might expect, she brought out her Young Living Essential Oils and proceeded to work aromatherapy magic. At the same time Lee Wai Ching (EarthStar Healing Consultancy) was clearing and realigning enregy with her own special talents. And I am grateful to all the others offered service through the day.

The more I hear about such head injuries I know I was blessed and would be in much worse shape without such immediate love, care, and healing. For all the visual impact, you know how head wounds can bleed, I only had a half inch cut. But my body had really been knocked off kilter, with the force going all the way down my spine. The two days before I had been consuming the Conference with a vengence. I had to be everywhere, see every sight, try everything. "After the Fall", well I had truly been knocked back into my body in some ways, or out of that "all consuming" attitude anyway. From that time foreard it was more about truly experiencing, gently, with purpose, with intention. I'm still sorting out those two different ways tof being and what I have truly brought back from it all.

So, you know, when you've had a rather traumatic experience, it is really nice and comforting to have a healer you have known check it all out. With friends I traveled north along the California coast to the Kashaya Reservation to see my Favorite Shaman, Lorin.

Visiting the reservation and the Ceremony house was a wonderful new experience for me and one I truly enjoyed sharing with my new friends; traveling companion, Raphael Weisman and Shirley Bassett.

I've know and been honored to experience Lorin's Weya Healing for almost 10 years, but he always comes to Santa Fe. To be blessed with the Weya Healing in the Ceremony House and from such a Gifted Healer, well what is there to even say. And then it was my great honor to Give Voice to Spirit for each of them.

Thanks for letting me share my story with you. It continues to be an interesting journey. And I am amazed at the blessings that come to me every day on this Path.

World Sound Healing Conference, Amazing!!

What an incredible 4 days. I have drummed and hummed and danced and vibrated and visioned and… learned so much!!!! There’s so much to hear about, and so much new technology as well as the ancient practices that still hold true. 

I am at home with people who understand my voicing, who themselves voice and tone and sing.

And the science that is coming forward to verify and quantify the power of sound to heal is phenomenal. Much of the quantum physics and music theory is way beyond me, but enough has been shared in lay-mans terms that, oh yeah, I get the idea. I sit up and take notice when a composer and special effects man for Raiders of The Lost Ark and Star Trek shares new sound technology he has developed by studying The Great Pyramid of Egypt.

San Francisco, here I come!!!!

Early tomorrow a.m. I'm heading out. Will be traveling with Raphael Weisman, the harp maker. Check out his works of art, yes they are works of art as well as musical instruments, at Harps of Lorien.

I am really looking forward to this conference, WORLD SOUND HEALING CONFERENCE, as well as being in San Francisco after, oh my, 23 years. There will be so much to  learn and share with you all. As I mentioned last week I am covering the show, so if you know a publication that might be interested in articles, please let me know.

My personal interest in the Conference is to gather info for products that I will be releasing this year. Yeap, another teaser, but they aren't ready for full disclosure yet. They went to an independent traditonal lab today for analysis. The confernece will give me alternative ways to test.
